A great tool makes such a huge difference, and I fully understand this feeling! Have you used other tools?

Yes! I hope to write about them more in the future, but one of my favorite tools to use for academic writing is LaTeX via Overleaf. It's super useful if equations and specific typesetting are your thing. Ulysses is great for fun creative projects across Apple devices.

Nice one! Perhaps a comparison might be a good post? I’ve used Scrivener.

Yes, I was thinking along the same lines! How do you like Scrivener?

I liked it well enough, though did find it a bit clunky!

I'm looking forward to testing it out!

If I didn’t know better, I’d think this was an ad! 😂 I usually jot ideas and drafts in my Notes app, but it’s pretty dull. Google Docs is where I do my research, for the same reasons you mentioned. I’m curious if Ulysses would be good for publication writing, too, especially in the initial stages before sharing with collaborators. Also, how does it stack up against free options like Notion or apps like Notability?

Thanks for giving my post a read! I think Ulysses is a great place to jot ideas down in the initial stages before sharing with collaborators. It's a great platform to blast away at free flowing ideas with a nice clean interface. I'm not sure how it stacks up against Notion or Notability as I haven't used those apps yet (thanks for mentioning them though!), but another advantage of using Ulysses is that it supports publishing posts directly to the following platforms: WordPress, Medium, Ghost, Micro.blog. Sadly, no Substack :(
